This is a franchise at a crossroads. An Eastern Conference power since the '90s where they made 16 Playoff appearances in 17 seasons, the Pacers have missed the Playoffs the past two years. They have questions up and down the roster. Has Jamaal Tinsley worn out his welcome and are the Pacers targeting a point guard with the No. 11 pick? O'Neal has an early termination option. Will he take it? Has his time in Indy passed? Is he willing to leave that much money to test the free agent waters? Bright spots were few and far between for the Pacers, but Mike Dunleavy and Danny Granger were the most improved of the Pacers' young core. And now that Donnie Walsh has gone home to New York to run the Knicks, Larry Bird has his work cut out for him.
"The Pacers have targeted a point guard or frontcourt help as areas they want to address in the draft. They had to give their first-round pick to Atlanta last year as part of the 2006 Al Harrington trade. Several mock drafts have the Pacers taking either UCLA point guard Russell Westbrook or Texas point guard D.J. Augustin."
