After a 39-43 finish in 2006-07, the Hornets buzzed to the top of the Western Conference behind the ascension of Chris Paul to MVP candidate and injury-free seasons from David West, Peja Stojakovic and Tyson Chandler. West and Paul each made the All-Star Team, representing the Western Conference in New Orleans. Byron Scott's leadership earned him recognition as the league's Coach of the Year. Julian Wright and Jannero Pargo both emerged as important contributors off the bench.
With the 27th pick, they'll likely be looking for an athletic slasher to complement Paul in the backcourt, or a big man to add depth behind Chandler and West.
"Most considered the Hornets to be a borderline playoff team before they won a franchise-record 56 games, captured their first division title, earned the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, won a best-of-seven playoff series for the first time, and had the defending champion Spurs on the brink of elimination before losing the final two games of their conference semifinal series.
All of New Orleans' key players are under contract and young enough to expect that their best years -- and those of the franchise -- are ahead of them."
